My Tongue Piercing

May 30, 2008 at 11:21 am | In Uncategorized | 1 Comment

No, I do not have it anymore, and I haven’t had my tongue pierced since my rebellious high school years.

However, at one point in time, I was young and stupid, and I put a barbell through my tongue. Why? I don’t know, probably because everyone else was doing it. (Isn’t that the reason teenagers do everything?)

Anyway, I saw a story on our newscast yesterday about an Arlington man that broke a world record for the most body piercings in ONE DAY! The dude got 900 PIERCINGS! Did I mention it was all in ONE DAY!? I don’t even want to imagine where he had to put all those piercings.

Remember that Lever 2000 commercial that says “for all your 2000 parts”… Well, he now has nearly half of those parts pierced! This is a picture of his arm.

Can you imagine the pain he is in today?! I remember when I got my tongue pierced I was in pain for days… it was hard to eat… hard to talk… and my tongue was swollen about 3 times it’s normal size. His whole body probably feels like one big swollen tongue right now! NO THANKS!

one more day until SEX…

…AND THE CITY… That is..

geez, get your minds out of the gutter. ;)

Just like every other woman in her 20’s (and yes, I am still in my 20’s), I am shaking like a scared Chihuahua with excitement over the new Sex and the City movie.

I’ve had my tickets purchased since Tuesday. (You can buy them in advance online)

My best friend is coming in town from Houston, and we are planning our whole Friday night around the movie.

Perhaps we will have a Cosmo first, and then go spend the rest of the evening with our 4 favorite girls, Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte!

As Promised!

I had an amazing time at Possum Kingdom Lake over the Memorial Day weekend. If you have never been there, I would highly recommend it. The lake was built (can you build a lake?) on the Brazos River.  So there are all kinds of twists and turns.

Much of the lake remains undeveloped so its absolutely beautiful. Even the parts that are developed, have these amazing homes.

The big attraction on holiday weekends is Hell’s Gate. Basically its a party cove, surrounded by these massive cliffs.

All of the boats tie up together, and everyone just has a good time. (Despite what Grant says in his blog, boating is a BLAST!)

Thought I would share some of the pictures of the lake, the HUGE boats, and my favorite, the sunset from Hell’s Gate!

weekend mode

Physically I am still at work, but mentally, I have been in weekend mode since yesterday! (Don’t tell my boss)

I am going to Possum Kingdom lake, near Graham, for the Memorial Day holiday. It’s going to be a fantastic time! The lovely NBC5 meteorologists are forecasting beautiful boat weather, my bags are packed, and I am ready to work on my tan, and once again attempt to water ski.

It’s a tradition of mine to kick off the summer with a Memorial Day lake trip. I am meeting up with some old friends of mine from Abilene, where I first started out in TV news.

If anyone else is heading out to the lake this weekend, enjoy your holiday, and BE SAFE!

More than 90 Million Votes!

May 22, 2008 at 6:25 am | In Uncategorized | Leave a Comment

I think more people cast their vote for the next American Idol than they did in the last presidential election!

I admit, I was one of them. For the first time in American Idol history, I voted, and apparently my vote counted. David Cook won last night! Of course, I didn’t stay up for the 2 hour finale. I needed my beauty sleep, but I was pleasantly surprised when I woke up and learned Cook took the title!

Honestly, I have never been an American Idol fan. In fact, I didn’t ever watch the show until three weeks ago. On Tuesday David Cook won my vote when he played one of my favorite songs, “The World I Know” by Collective Soul.  It also impressed me that he played the guitar.

I posted a youtube video of his performance! I am betting he has a HUGE career ahead of him!

Does the camera REALLY add 10 pounds?

May 20, 2008 at 7:59 am | In Uncategorized | 2 Comments

Short answer: NO!

I get this question a lot… mostly from women who I am trying to interview. Many are already insecure about their weight, and the thought of this evil piece of equipment called a camera, making them look heavier often keeps them from doing the interview.

Here’s how I ease their minds (and mine)… IF the camera really added ten pounds, no woman in her right mind would be in this business! None of us want to look bigger than we are, and we would most certainly not choose a profession that packs on imaginary pounds.

There are actually some photography “tricks” that can make you look slimmer… stand at an angle, shoot the subject from the waist up, even lighting can hide a multitude of sins.

So if I ever approach you out on the street and ask for an interview, you will now have to come up with a different excuse not to talk to me.

No Sweat Stains or Runny Makeup for Me!

Just one more reason to LOVE the morning shift!

The hours are brutal, and during the winter I freeze my butt off standing outside every morning doing live shots… But you know, this week, I LOVE MY SHIFT!

Summer is here! (well, not officially, but it certainly feels like it!) This morning, James Adeylott was talking about the heat wave moving through North Texas this week.  I couldn’t help but think about just was how lucky I am. While Lindsay Wilcox, Susy Solis and Ashanti Blaize will be out reporting in the boiling heat, I will be off work, sipping my iced tea inside my air-conditioned apartment.

Get that sweat-proof makeup ready girls – and dress in cool clothing! You’re going to need it!

Texans just won’t give up cars

May 16, 2008 at 10:27 am | In Uncategorized | Leave a Comment

Today is National Bike to Work Day. Of course, you already knew that, right? You left the car at home and pedalled your way to the office, DIDN’T YOU?! Yeah, me either… My excuse is I go to work at 3:30 in the morning (and I’m lazy). It’s far too dark at that hour (and I’m lazy). I live way too far from the office (and I’m lazy). Plus, I can’t be sweaty and go on air (AND I’M LAZY)!

The thing is, Texans just don’t want to give up their cars. There are so many cities in the nation where everyone walks, rides a bike, or uses a mass transit system… But not in Texas.

Not only do we drive cars, we drive BIG cars – extended-cab trucks… SUV’s… gas-guzzling Humvees. To be honest, I drive a very fuel-efficient Honda. I bought it years ago, before gas prices were outrageous, and I plan on driving it until the wheels fall off (or at least until gas prices go down).

I am not going to claim to be an environmentalist, but I do care about the earth. I don’t want to live in a dump, and I don’t want the future generations to either. I don’t say this very often, but maybe Texans can learn something from people in other parts of the nation, like NYC or San Francisco. Maybe we need to leave the cars at home once in awhile, build in an extra 30 minutes for our commute, and huff it to work on a bike!

Now your turn… what would it take for you to trade in your car for alternative transportation? $10/gallon gas? A subway system? Smog so thick the sky is black? Someone prying your car keys from your cold, dead hands? Something to think about, while your sitting in traffic on your way home today! :)

Comment me, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

You can watch the story tonight on NBC5 News at Five!

VICIOUS pomeranians!!!

May 15, 2008 at 7:04 am | In Uncategorized | 3 Comments

My parents have an evil attack dog named Romeo. Don’t let the name fool you, he’s a fighter, not a lover. He is like a fierce lion, with fangs for teeth! The only difference between him and the carnivorous King of the Jungle, is Romeo only weighs about 10 pounds.

But, be warned — he WILL attack you! And he will bite!

Why am I telling you this story? Last night, we reported on a little girl mauled by two pit bulls. We’ve had a lot of comments from viewers who say these vicious dogs should be banned, and kept far away from children. Perhaps that is the case, but I’m going to play devil’s advocate here.

Perhaps we need to ban those vicious Pomeranians too. They will attack, and if it were at all possible, THEY WOULD EAT YOU! OK, so you don’t hear too many stories about Pomeranians mauling children, and no, Romeo has never bitten a child, let alone mauled one. It comes down to responsible pet ownership. My parents know Romeo is scared of strangers, so they do not let him run loose around young children to go on a biting spree.

No matter what breed of dog, they will bite if they feel threatened. That’s why pet owners need to take the right precautions to assure that does not happen.

where are the NBC5 hunks?!

May 14, 2008 at 7:04 am | In Uncategorized | 2 Comments

A local radio station is doing a “man candy” contest, where listeners vote for their favorite male TV anchor/reporter/meteorologist.

Nothing against the five men they selected to include in this competition… But where are our NBC5 hunks? We have man candy too! (can I get an amen from all my male coworkers?)

I wanted to conduct my own web poll with ONLY our NBC5 studs, but I didn’t want to overwhelm our website with all the views and votes it would get! ;)

Anyway, if you care to check out the Man Candy Contest I went ahead and posted the link.  http://www.movin1075fm.com/pages/2152562.php
