Thank you for taking the time to comment on my blog. To answer the questions, yes, it is very difficult to cover stories of this nature. However, that is the world we live in, and it is our job to keep the public informed.

Second, the suspect was actually from South America, where police tell us crimes using machetes are more common.

Finally, Wyndi makes an interesting point. In general, our society is a bit desensatized. A lot of people only look out for themselves, and do not consider who they hurt or step on along the way

It's sad that what we seem to have lost in this society is compassion and regard for others. The stories like the one you covered are frightening and make the headlines, but those are just the "newsworthy" edge.

It has become the norm to place one's self above all others and all else. You see it in the driving patterns, rushing to get into line before the person already headed that way, and unfortunately in daily business. The game seems to go to whomever can score the highest ripping someone else off. Hard to imagine.....a thing called "financial violence" but that's what it amounts to when you consider the harm done.

I'm sorry to read the comment about El Salvadorians........rather than a 'group of people', it could have just been "easy access" to a machete because the person couldn't get hold of a gun.

The problem is that people, for the most part today, simply want what they want, no matter how they get it, and regardless of the damage they cause.

It must be very stressful covering stories of this nature. Do you get many stories with good news to balance it out?
