My Road Trip Tradition

July 4, 2008 at 6:19 am | In Uncategorized | 4 Comments

I’ve got two words for ya: DAIRY QUEEN!

I only treat myself to the calorie-packed treats on road trips… but it is a long-standing tradition of mine, that I refuse to let go.

Today I am driving to my hometown, Odessa, Texas, to visit my family for the 4th… and I doubt I get any further than Weatherford before the “Texas Stop Sign” calls my name.

Between Fort Worth and Odessa there are probably 20 Dairy Queens along I-20. I’ve probably been to all of them. :)

I don’t eat the food from Dairy Queen much, but I always have a blizzard… I am very predictable by nature. Usually I have a Heath bar blizzard or a Strawberry Cheesequake blizzard… Today, maybe I’ll live on the wild side, and go for something crazy — like a Chocolate Xtreme!

Hope you guys have a great holiday weekend… We’ll chat again Monday!

  1. Oh my god! I love Dairy Queen too! In fact, when I was in high school, that was my first job! Other than the closest DQ (by like 5 miles which is out of my way of everything), I only eat at DQ when I go home to Cleburne. I loved the breezes (a yogurt blizzard), but they got rid of them. I did see on the commercial that they have a Girl Scouts mint cookie blizzard. That looks so good that I think I might try one! You should try it! Have a happy 4th weekend!

  2. I love the Chocolate XTreme – my twice a year indulgence! But, I really can’t wait to try the Girl Scout Thin Mint Blizzard :) Have a great 4th!

  3. I think there’s something about being from Texas that you have to have some kind of “tradition” when on road trips because those road trips can be long! My husband and I are always looking for those “local” places to stop and eat, you know, the food you can’t get when you go home. Like the diner north of Hearne or a Bodacious Barbecue in East Texas.

  4. OK – I tried the thin mint – if you like the girl scount cookies or mint chocolate chip ice cream… you’ll love it!
